From the outset, the listed status has presented unique challenges. Limited space between floors means traditional service runs aren’t possible, so our team has been getting creative – carefully integrating pipework within the floor structure itself without disturbing the building’s historic features. It’s a puzzle that demands precision, ingenuity, and a deep respect for the fabric of the home.
Outside, the transformation is already striking. The entire rear façade has been removed to make way for a dramatic new double-storey extension. This will house a showpiece master bedroom with full-height glazing, framing uninterrupted views of the rolling countryside beyond – a perfect marriage of heritage stonework and contemporary design.

The site is a hive of activity, with groundworks well underway, structural supports in place, and trades moving between tasks both inside and out. Every stage is carefully planned to preserve the cottage’s historic charm while introducing the comforts and efficiencies of modern living.
It’s early days, but Maplebrook Cottage is already shaping up to be a showcase of how old and new can work beautifully together. Keep following the diary for updates as this unique home takes on its stunning new form.
